Nomination and Election of Board Members
Introduction
In order to include as many members as possible in the elections process, CAFA board members are nominated and elected via email.
There are a total of five executive positions and they are all one year terms. The roles of each member of the new executive is determined by the executive members themselves once they are elected so it is not necessary or desired to nominate someone for a particular position.
Eligibility
- To be eligible to serve on the board, candidates must be individual members, at least 18 years of age, with the power under law to contract. They must also be Canadian citizens residing within Canada.
Nominations
- Nominations for board start one week before the AGM.
- Nominations are made via the freedivecanada egroups list.
- Any CAFA member in good standing can nominate any other CAFA member in good standing. (You can't nominate yourself.)
- A member can nominate more than one person to the board.
- It is not necessary for another member to second the nomination.
- Nominees must post to the freedivecanada list their intention to accept or decline the nomination.
- An opportunity will be given during the AGM to accept any last minute nominations.
Campaigning
Candidates for the CAFA board should send their résumé to the freedivecanada egroups list as soon after being nominated as possible. The résumés and campaign statements will be posted to the freedivecanada web site as part of the AGM agenda and minutes.
Election Process
If there are more than five candidates for the board then elections will be held via email during the week following the AGM.
- To be eligible to vote, members must be in good standing (ie. have their fees paid up) on the date of the AGM.
- The board will recruit two independent vote counters who are not CAFA members.
- All votes sent to the email alias [email protected] will go to these two vote counters.
- The vote counters will receive a list of the members in good standing who are eligible to vote.
- CAFA members in good standing will send as their ballot a list of up to five candidates that they want on the board.
- Ballots with more than five candidates listed will be considered invalid.
- The election period will close one week after the AGM at midnight Pacific time.
- The five candidates with the most votes will be elected to the board.
- Results of the vote will be posted to the freedivecanada email list.
