2003 CAFA Annual General Meeting
September 30, 2003
Marketing and Promotion Report
Over the course of the last year we have created all new marketing and presentation materials to attract interest in both our association, team and our now-successful bid for next years World Championships.
A particular effort was made to create connections to national television and potential corporate sponsors although grassroots efforts continue at both the board and local club level.
Media
Press
CAFA continues to get good local press in the Vancouver area and anticipates this will expand across the country with the announcment of the 2004 World Championships.
Television
Over the course of the last year we have established relationships with several national television networks including Fox Sportsnet, TSN and CBC.
CBC will be airing a special piece on Mandy-Rae this fall and representatives from CTV are currently in discussion with CAFA for an mini-competition shortly.
While we have yet to ink a deal for the 2004 World's there is serious interest from Fox Sportsnet and an on-going discussion with TSN for complete coverage of the event. Meanwhile we anticipate most of the major networks will be on-site at various times during the event.
Radio
A 17 minute first-person documentary on Perry's past national static record aired twice on CBC Radio One and has provoked interest in an onsite report during the 2004 World's.
Promotions
A Proposal has been made to the Lung Association for an introduction to freediving session which we hope will have a national scope for next summer/fall.
Future events will be centered around the upcoming World Championships to increase awareness and audience.
Looking forward
Overall it was a very successful year and with invaluable help from members such as Jason Billows, CAFA was able top get Frediving into the conciousness of many mainstream business and media personnel. Looking forward this will be of great benefit as we approach what will surely be the biggest year in Freediving in Canada for some time.
