Competition Check List

The following is a guideline to action items for setting up a competition.

  1. Pick the Dates – To do this you may need to take all or some of the following into account.
    • Pool Availability
    • Tides
    • Volunteers (safety divers, etc)
    • Boat Availability
  2. Apply to CAFA no later than one-month (recommend 3 months) before the start of the competition (email [email protected]) to host a CAFA competition and request judges.
  3. Book pool space – Please refer to the “CAFA Competitions Guidelines” in the appendix for details on pool specifics (i.e. Depth, length, etc)
    1. See Appendix “A” for a spreadsheet to figure out total amount of pool time needed for each event.
    2. Remember that Static and Dynamic can be held on the same day or on separate days
  4. Choose an appropriate Open Water site. See “CAFA Competitions Guidelines” in the appendix for details on open water site requirements.

    2. Book boat(s) if required
    3. Ensure that you have safety equipment see “CAFA Safety Protocols for Competitions and Records”
    4. Get materials for making tags. See instructions on how to make a tag
  5. Find required number of safety divers for both the Pool and Open Water – see CAFA Safety Protocols for Competitions and Records for details.
  6. Book EMT’s or equivalent for both the Pool and Open Water portions of the event.
  7. Set a price for the competition – keep in mind that the total cost should include the $25 CAFA sanctioning fee. See Appendix “C” for a Competition Costs Calculator help guide.CAFA can now accept on-line Pay Pal payments made with credit cards. Please notify the CAFA Treasurer if you would like this as an option.
  8. Write a press release containing the following information and send it to [email protected] for posting on the CAFA web site. You should then post it to the freedivecanada egroups list and send it to any other such groups.
    1. Date
    2. Disciplines. State date time and location for each event
    3. Cost of the competition (including CAFA sanctioning fee)
    4. Organizer’s name
    5. How to contact the organizer (email and phone number)
    6. Deadline to register
    7. Any other specifics pertaining to the event
    8. Whether or not the competitor willd need to supply their own lanyards or if the organizer will supply them.
  9. Have CAFA order Ribbons for your event.
