Individual and Team Competition

There is typically two types of competitions in freediving: Team or Individual.

In an “individuals” competition divers compete against everyone, including others from their country. The winner is the athlete who scores the most points. In case of equality between two athletes, the winner will be the one with the smallest difference between announced performances and realized performances.

Team competitions consist of one male and one female team per nation . A mixed team (men and a women) is possible if a country can’t have a complete team of men or women. The mixed team will be classed with men teams. The points are identical for both male and female teams. Each athlete must hold a passport for the country he represents or in case of a “wild card” live or be born in the area he represents.

The winning team is the team who score the most points. The points of all the free divers of the team will be added together. In case of equality between two teams, the winning team will be the one with the smallest difference between announced performances and achieved performances in static apnea.
